Caribbean region

Generalities

  • The Caribbean region of Colombia comprises 13% of the continental territory and 63% of the country's maritime territory. This region covers the departments of Atlántico, Bolívar, Magdalena, Córdoba, La Guajira, Cesar, Sucre, Antioquia and Chocó.
  • There is a great diversity of ecosystems thanks to the wide altitudinal variation of its continental formations and its marine ecosystems. Some ecosystems are: dry forest, swamps, deserts, estuaries, Andean forests, high Andean forests, cloud forests and paramo. It is considered one of the regions with the greatest diversity of flora.
  • This area is home to the highest points in the country and the highest mountain coastline in the world, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Tips

  1. When you visit the Caribbean coast, support local business and hotels that are friendly to the environment, keep the mangroves and shores clean since waste is harmful to all who reside there.
  2. Support initiatives that seek to conserve these valuable landscapes since the sea supports many people, animals, and plants.
