Generalities

  • This region is located in the center of the country, comprising the three mountain ranges and therefore extending through Colombia from north to south. It represents approximately 25% of the national territory. It includes altitudes between 100 to more than 5,400 m; it has all the thermal floors and a great variety of climates.
  • The departments in this region are: Caquetá, Cundinamarca, Caldas, Tolima, Cesar, Chocó, Antioquia, Boyacá, Huila, Santander, Norte de Santander, Quindío, Risaralda, Cauca, Putumayo, Valle del Cauca and Nariño.
  • Some of the ecosystems present are: dry forest, Andean forest, cloud forest, high Andean forest, wetlands and paramos.
  • The Colombian Andes are an important source of endemisms, but also one of the regions with the highest percentage of transformation in the country, making them a real challenge for conservation.

Tips

  1. Activities such as livestock, mining and fires caused in the paramos greatly damage these environments and leave us without water.
  2. Encourage the cultivation of native trees such as magnolias and oaks, the introduction of foreign species such as pine, eucalyptus, acacia and thorny broom harms our ecosystems.
